Perth and Kinross Council is aiming to develop a Smart City Strategy over the course of 2015/16 that will set out the vision, themes and actions that will help make the city of Perth and the surrounding district a smarter and more liveable place.
A smart city is defined as one where the integration of data and digital technologies into a strategic approach to sustainability, citizen well-being and economic development is taking place. The aim is for Perth to use data and technology to manage traffic congestion, create smart energy grids, enhance public safety and improve services for the benefit of residents and visitors.
With a Smart City Strategy, Perth will be able to integrate data and information flows between different services within the Council and with other organisations to bring service improvements and efficiencies. The Smart City Strategy will be underpinned by themes such as open data, citizen engagement, innovation and establishing new collaborations across the public, private and voluntary sectors.
Perth and Kinross is working on the smart city agenda with the other six Scottish Cities through the Scottish Cities Alliance. By working together the cities can better access potential investment, accelerate innovation and learning and develop smart city projects running across the seven cities.
